Whatcom Hoops Boys Top 30: #2 Gannon Dykstra

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 boys. Each day we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#2

Gannon Dykstra, senior, Lynden Christian

WHY HE’S #2: The ultra-skilled 6-foot-1 guard was the unstoppable engine for the Lyncs’ league-leading scoring machine and his numbers alone were impressive enough to rank him among the best point guards in the state: 23 points, almost 6 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals a game while shooting 47 percent from the field often from 3-point range and 80 percent from the line. But what made Dykstra’s season extra special even among LC’s long line of all-staters was his confident leadership, which took a team with no other returning starter and three sophomore starters to the Class 1A state championship game. For his remarkable accomplishments, he was named to the SB Live 1A all-state first team, the 1A all-state tournament first team, the WIBCA all-state seniors game, the all-Northwest Conference first team, and the Whatcom County Seniors Classic.

COACH TIM ZYLSTRA: “His stats are off the charts, perhaps the best-ever in the history of LC basketball. He was the only starter back and he worked his tail off. He had an incredible year, going over the 1,000-points mark. Besides being one of the best point guards in the state at any level, he’s a great teammate, a great leader, and a great kid.”
