Whatcom Hoops Boys Top 30: #3 Jerome Toby Jr.

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 boys. Each day we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#3

Jerome Toby Jr., junior, Lummi Nation

WHY HE’S #3: This past March, the rest of the state learned what anyone who has seen Lummi Nation basketball the past four years (yes, since he was an eighth-grader) has known — that the 5-foot-8 point guard is one of the best players in the state. Incredibly quick but always under control and in control, Toby not only scored 18 points a game on 3-pointers, pull-up jumpers, and acrobatic layups, but made his teammates better by dishing out 6 assists a game, by far the most in the county. He also led the county with 4 steals a game, including the biggest one of the season in the final seconds of the Class 1B final to give the Blackhawks their state championship. With the spotlight finally on him, Toby swept every award possible. He was the SB Live 1B player of the year, the 1B state tournament MVP, and the Northwest 1B League player of the year.

COACH JEROME TOBY SR.: “Jerome has done all I could ask of him, delivering to Lummi Nation a league, district, tri-district, and state title to our community.”
