Whatcom Hoops Boys Top 30: #1 Dawson Hintz

In an amazing season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 boys. Each day we featured an outstanding player in our county and counted down until we got to #1 today. We hope you enjoyed following as we honored the best of the best.

#1

Dawson Hintz, junior, Lynden Christian

WHY HE’S #1: There was no more electric player in the Northwest Conference or the Class 1A ranks than the 6-foot guard who played a half-foot taller. He averaged team-highs of 23 points (on 52 percent shooting from the field and 87 percent from the line), 6 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and almost 3 steals a game, but it was his fierce competitiveness — not to mention his deadly long-range shooting and dynamic dunks — that frustrated opponents and drove the Lyncs to the 1A state title. He was named to VarsityWA’s 1A all-state first team, the media’s 1A all-state tournament MVP, Eli Sports Network’s 1A all-state tournament first team, and first team all-NWC.

COACH TIM ZYLSTRA: “Dawson is a special player, who works his tail off at his craft. He’s the type who competes all the time and sometimes that’s the difference. His wanting to get better and his will to win are what make those special players. He had a little adversity at the end, but came out of it stronger. He deserves to be the No.1 player not only because of his stats but because he competes on every single play. He wants the ball and wants to guard the best. Everybody talks about his offense, but he stepped up on the defensive end. Any time you’re well-rounded like that, you become a better player.”

NOTE: Thank you to the coaches and to Tyler Anderson of WhatcomPreps.com for season stats.
