Whatcom Hoops Boys Top 30: #5 Jaeger Fyfe

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 boys. Each day we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#5

Jaeger Fyfe, senior, Meridian

WHY HE’S #5: One of the school’s all-time all-around athlete who also starred on the football field and baseball diamond, the 6-foot-3 guard was a force in the basketball court since his freshman year and a big reason for Meridian’s fourth-place finish at state last March. Confident from 3-point range or driving to the hoop, he could put up big offensive numbers when needed but was just as satisfied setting up his teammates and shutting down an opponent’s top scorer. He averaged more than 16 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals and was named to the WIBCA all-state seniors game, the Class 1A all-state tournament second team, the all-Northwest Conference first team, and the Whatcom County Seniors Classic.

COACH SHANE STACY: “Nobody has sacrificed more or changed their game more for this program than Jaeger. His growth as a leader and his ability to fill up the stat sheet with hustle points, assists, and rebounds has been amazing. All of his growth was on display in our loser-out game versus Seton Catholic. Despite badly spraining his ankle and sitting out a quarter, he returned to have 8 points, 7 rebounds, 9 assists, and 11 of our hustle points. He also took two charges and drew four of the five fouls against their top player in doing so.  These numbers might not have caught the eye of those who select the all-tournament team but they reverberated through our program.”
