#5
Allison Shumate, senior, Lynden Christian
WHY SHE’S #5: The 6-foot post came up big when LC needed her — not only with her scoring during the playoffs but by providing steady leadership all season long to a team decimated by injuries to her fellow seniors. Her toughness and powerful inside game set up the Lyncs’ outside shooters as she averaged 13 points on 64 percent shooting from the field and almost 6 rebounds a game. She earned second-team honors at the Class 1A state tournament, was the co-MVP of the WSBCA’s Class 1A-2A all-state seniors game, and was named to the all-Northwest Conference first team, and the Whatcom County Seniors Classic.
COACH BRADY BOMBER: “Allison controlled the paint for us all season long and played her best basketball in the post-season. Her presence created open space and more opportunities for the rest of her team. She is an unselfish teammate who celebrates others in a special way.”
