Whatcom Hoops Boys Top 30: #4 Talon Jenkins

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 boys. Each day we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#4

Talon Jenkins, senior, Meridian

WHY HE’S #4: The heart of the Trojans’ back-to-back state tournament teams, the 6-foot-5 forward might have made the top 30 list because of his rebounding and leadership even if he’d averaged half as many points. But in addition to averaging nearly 8 boards a game, Jenkins was one of the league’s best outside shooters, averaging almost 19 points a game. What made him special was his ability to hit big shots in big moments. By upgrading his game to include more than 2 assists and almost 2 steals a game, he was named to the SB Live all-state Class 1A second team, the WIBCA all-state seniors game, the 1A all-state tournament second team, the all-Northwest Conference first team, and the Whatcom County Seniors Classic.

COACH SHANE STACY: “Talon was an amazing leader on and off the court for our program. He is the ‘Pied Piper’ when it comes to getting kids into the gym and working on their game. Our younger guys have a great deal of respect for him, and there is no doubt his influence will be seen in our program for years to come.  His ability to step up and hit big shots for us when we needed it most the last couple of years was not a fluke but a result of his off-season preparation. Talon loves everything about the game from the leadership aspect, preparing for opponents, watching film, hydrating properly, stretching properly, etc. He eats, sleeps and breathes basketball and it has shown in so many ways the last four years.”
