Whatcom Hoops Girls Top 30: #22 Melanie Short

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 girls. Each day we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#22

Melanie Short, freshman, Meridian

WHY SHE’S #22: The smooth 5-foot-7 guard didn’t always start, but she was always in the game in crunch time and by the end of the season was the Trojans’ most dependable scorer whether firing from outside or driving to the hoop. Her skills and confidence made her one of the top freshmen in the conference as she averaged 11.1 points and 5 rebounds a game.

COACH BREE JOY: “Melanie is one of the best pure shooters I have seen at Meridian. She has an incredibly high ceiling, and if she continues to work at her craft, she could be one of the best girls basketball players to ever put on a Meridian uniform.”
