In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 girls. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and counted down until we got to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.
#23
Deja Dube, junior, Blaine
WHY SHE’S #23: Like many of the Top 30, Dube is a team player, but few in the league are asked to do so much for the team. The 5-foot-8 point guard is asked to run the offense (nearly 2 assists a game) and handle the ball against the press, be the main outside scoring threat (11.8 points a game), battle inside with other teams’ posts (5.7 rebounds a game), and defend the other team’s leading scorer.
COACH GRACIE PHELPS: “Deja is such a hard worker. She often guards the other teams’ best players and she is in charge of bringing the ball up the court. She never complains and is always positive. You can count on her to bring her all in each game and to be a voice out on the court for her teammates. She improved on her defense throughout the entire season as well as her shooting. I’m proud in the ways she stepped up this year as a teammate.”
