In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 girls. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and counted down until we got to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.
#13
Kalanie Newcomb, junior, Lynden
WHY SHE’S #13: If there was an underrated all-star squad, Newcomb might be first team. The 5-foot-7 point guard, who missed all of her sophomore year due to an injury, was the quiet leader who did all the little things to drive the Lions into the state playoffs. She averaged 10 points, made more than 35 percent of her 3-point shots, and dished out 3 assists a game while running the efficient Lynden offense. And she had 2 steals a game while often defending the opposing team’s best guard.
COACH VIC WOLFFIS: “Kalanie was our floor general and handled a bulk of the responsibility versus pressure and provided us with a great outside shooting threat and leadership.”
