In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 girls. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and counted down until we got to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.
#15
Ellie Ochoa, senior, Ferndale
WHY SHE’S #15: As a four-year varsity standout, Ochoa was the veteran the Golden Eagles looked to. Her intensity on both ends of the court embodied the Ferndale style and her unselfish leadership set the tone for the Golden Eagles. The 5-foot-5 guard averaged 8.3 points and 3.5 rebounds a game and shot 70 percent from the line. But she was best known for making life miserable for opposing guards by collecting a team-high 50 steals, which helped her earn second-team all-Northwest Conference honors.
COACH TERRI YOST: “She was our coach on the floor this season. Ellie is a tough defender with quick hands and led our team in steals this year. She can make deep 3s and drive to the paint with a floater, which made her difficult to guard.”
