In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 boys. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and counted down until we got to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.
#8
Richard Wilson, senior, Lummi Nation
WHY HE’S #8: A four-year starter who took his team to state three times (and would have a fourth time if they’d had state playoffs in 2021), Wilson deserved to be on the list. But add that he was the Northwest 1B League player of the year this season in leading the young Blackhawks to a tri-district title and you see why he is so high. An athletic 6-foot-3 wing, he could score from anywhere, averaging 17.2 points a game. But he was a terror inside, pulling down 8 rebounds a game, and on defense, collecting 1.5 steals a game.
COACH JEROME TOBY: “Richard is one the most versatile players to come through our program. With his size and length, he could play and defend positions 1 through 5.”
