In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 boys each day. Starting today, we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.
Trey Smiley, senior, Lynden
WHY HE’S #30: Smiley was the unsung player for the Class 2A state champions who did much that was not reflected in the scorebook. The 6-foot-3 forward defended, was third on the team in rebounding, and was second in assists (90 for the season). He was a point forward who handled the ball against pressure and sacrificed his scoring to set up teammates.
COACH BRIAN ROPER: “If you watch Trey over time you realize the many little things he does. It could be get a steal, a loose ball or a rebound or find open shooters from the high post. He is a fun-loving guy who is confident and became for us a star in his role.”
