In an amazing season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 girls. Each day we’ll feature an outstanding player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.
#3
Rebeca Soares, junior, Mount Baker
WHY SHE’S #3: The only thing preventing the 6-foot-2 post from earning all-state honors is the fact that all the state has never seen her play. There was no more dominant force around the basket in the Northwest Conference, who despite being often double and triple teamed still managed to average nearly 19 points and 16 rebounds, shooting 50 percent from the field and 71 percent from the line. Her passing (2 assists a game) and ability to bring the ball up the court helped the young Mounties come within one game of reaching state. She was once again an easy choice for first team all-Northwest Conference and a case could be made that there was no more valuable player to her team in the entire league than the talented Brazilian.
COACH TIFFANY RAMIREZ: “Rebeca brings a strong competitive spirit and work ethic to our program every day. She has shown growth in challenging situations and is striving to continue grow in her leadership role on our team.”
