Whatcom Hoops Boys Top 30: #5 Joe Harward

In another amazing season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 boys. Each day we’ll feature an outstanding player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#5

Joe Harward, senior, Bellingham

WHY HE’S #5: There might have been better rebounders or slashers or even dunkers, but no one in Whatcom County combined the three into an offensive force than the powerful 6-foot-4 forward. Anywhere within 12 feet of the hoop, he was unstoppable, averaging 23 points and a slam or two a game on 58 percent shooting from the field. He was relentless on the boards, averaging more than 8 rebounds a game, and he upped his overall game by grabbing 3 steals and dishing out 2 assists a game. For his determination and consistent output, he was named first team all-Northwest Conference.

COACH BRAD McKAY: “Joe was a dynamic offensive player who scored a ton of points for us and who we counted on to bring awesome chocolate chip cookies to away games. He broke the single-game scoring record with 41 points in a game and set the single-season steal record at 68 this season.”
