Whatcom Hoops Boys Top 30: #17 Pierce Brzozowski

In another amazing season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 boys. Each day we’ll feature an outstanding player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#17

Pierce Brzozowski, junior, Meridian

WHY HE’S #17: The 6-foot point guard was as valuable to the Trojans as any player in the Northwest Conference was to their team. One of the top play makers and ball handlers, he finished with almost 5 assists a game, but he also grabbed 6 rebounds and almost 3 steals a game in Meridian’s relentless pressure defense. And while he only averaged 8 points a game, the last month of the season he was the team’s main offensive threat.

COACH SHANE STACY: “Pierce just continued to get better and better as the season progressed, and he began to realize that his job as a distributor his sophomore season needed to morph into that of a distributor and a scorer. His basketball IQ is off the charts, and he has a ‘chess-like’ mentality of seeing things several steps into a set. The last several games saw him at his finest with games of 36 points and our program’s first triple-double in more than 30 years. He constantly led the team in hustle stats, taking three charges in our final game, and he rarely stepped off the court our last several games of the season.”
