Whatcom Hoops Girls Top 30: #3 Payton Mills

In a season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops ranked the top 30 girls. Each day we featured an amazing player in our county and counted down until we got to #1. We hope you enjoyed the countdown as we honored the best of the best.

#3

Payton Mills, freshman, Lynden

WHY SHE’S #3: It’s rare for a freshman to have such an impact, but Mills was not only a special player but she was just what the Lions needed — an inside presence. With her mature footwork and soft touch around the basket, she went from a reserve to a starter to a first-team all-Northwest Conference star. The confident 6-foot-1 post also developed a 3-point shot and finished with a 12-point scoring average shooting 54 percent from the field and 39 percent from the 3-point line while also grabbing 8 rebounds a game. With Lynden winning the district title and reaching the state tournament, Mills was named to Scorebook Live’s Class 2A all-state second team.

COACH VIC WOLFFIS: “Payton had an incredible freshman campaign leading us in many statistical categories and providing our team with a real inside threat that had to be accounted for.”
