With most of our Whatcom high school seniors graduating in the next two weeks, it’s the perfect time to look at where some of your favorite players will attending college next year to play basketball.
Here are members of the Class of 2024 who have announced where they will be going this fall. And good luck to all of them.
KAYLEE ANDERSON, WHATCOM COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Nooksack Valley’s clutch 3-point shooter will stay in Whatcom County and join Lummi Nation’s Keyonee Morris, Zeta Landsem, and Serena Jo Pantalia, and Sehome’s Madi Cooper at the Bellingham school. A two-time Class 1A state champion with the Pioneers, Anderson joins an Orcas team that finished 7-18 last season but will be guided this winter by first-year coach Bobbi Westendorf, who played and coached at Western Washington University.
ANTHONY CANALES, WESTERN WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY
Lynden’s all-time leading scorer will continue his legacy while playing for the hometown Vikings. After leading the Lions to three straight Class 2A state titles, the all-state guard will join a WWU squad that finished 17-12 last season and just missed the Great Northwest Athletic Conference playoffs. He’ll also be joining former rival Grant Kepley of Sehome, who is a redshirt freshman with the NCAA Division II school.
MADI COOPER, WHATCOM COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Sehome’s point guard will stay in Whatcom County and join Lummi Nation’s Zeta Lands , Keyonee Morris, and Serena Jo Pantalia, and Nooksack’s Kaylee Anderson at the Bellingham school. DEVIN COPPINGER, UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON
The three-time all-state guard will trade Nooksack Valley’s purple and white for the Huskies’ purple and gold. After leading the Pioneers to consecutive Class 1A state titles, Coppinger will take her skills to Washington, which moves to the Big Ten Conference this fall after finishing 16-15 last season in the Pac-12 and reaching the Women’s Basketball Invitation Tournament.
DEJA DUBE, SKAGIT VALLEY COLLEGE
Blaine’s standout point guard will head down I-5 and take her talents to the Mount Vernon community college. A four-year starter for the Borderites, Dube will join a Cardinals squad that finished 11-17 last season and just missed qualifying for the Northwest Athletic Conference tournament.
BRADY ELSNER, EDMONDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Lynden’s all-time assists leader is taking his talents to another winning program. The point guard, who helped the Lions win their past two Class 2A state titles, will be playing for the Tritons, who finished 22-9 last year, won the North Division of the Northwest Athletic Conference and reached the elite eight of the NWAC tournament.
BHAVNOOR GREWAL, WHATCOM COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The Ferndale guard will stay in Whatcom County and join Golden Eagles teammate Bishop Ootsey at the Bellingham school. The Orcas finished 15-13 and just missed making the Northwest Athletic Conference playoffs.
EMMY HART, PACIFIC UNIVERSITY
Sehome’s all-time 3-point shooter will be playing for the NCAA Division III school in Forest Grove, Ore. The all-league guard will join the Boxers, who finished a successful season with a 17-9 record after reaching the championship game of the Northwest Conference.
TANA HOEKEMA, LINFIELD UNIVERSITY
Nooksack Valley’s all-league post and key member of the Pioneers’ back-to-back Class 1A state champion teams will bring her versatile game to McMinnville, Ore. The NCAA Division III Wildcats finished 11-14 last season and were in the running for a conference playoff berth heading into the final weeks of the season.
TY HOLLEMAN, SCOTTSDALE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
The Lynden post will bring the Lions’ winning pedigree to the Arizona school. A key member of the Class 2A state championship team this past March, he will be joining the Fighting Artichokes, who reached their NJCAA Division II Region I semifinals and finished with a 12-16 record.
