Best Of State 2020: #1 Lynden Christian Girls vs. Cashmere

TOP 20 OF STATE 2020: Counting down the best games involving Whatcom County teams from March’s state tournaments.

#1 Lynden Christian girls 58, Cashmere 55

This game was simply the best. It had the biggest buildup, the top two teams, perhaps the best player in state history and the most excitement from tipoff to final buzzer. And in the end, the Lyncs were the best as they beat the Bulldogs — again — for the Class 1A state championship.

To win their third title in five years and 13th overall, the Lyncs had to rally from an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit against top-ranked and undefeated Cashmere and all-American guard Hailey Van Lith.

Among the LC heroes were Kiley Roetcisoender, whose 3-pointer was the go-ahead basket and who made the critical steal at the end of the game; Libby Stump, who led the team with 12 points; Riley Dykstra, who was named first team all-tournament after collecting 10 points and 5 rebounds; and Emily Mellema, who was named second team all-tournament and who had 10 points.
