All-NWC Boys: 2 Lions, 2 Lyncs, 2 Storm On All-Conference Teams

Lynden, Lynden Christian and Squalicum each had two players named to the all-Northwest Conference boys basketball all-star teams as announced by the coaches.

Senior forward Brock Heppner and junior post Liam Hanenburg, who helped the Lions take third in the Class 2A state tournament last weekend, were named to the first team.

Senior guard Andrew DeVries of Lynden Christian also was named to the first team and junior guard Jaden DeBoer was named to the second team. The Lyncs took second at the Class 1A state tournament in Yakima.

Senior guards Devante Powell and Dedrick Mitchell of Squalicum’s Class 3A playoff team also were honored. Powell was a first-team pick and Mitchell a second-team choice.

The Whatcom County Senior Classic is this Friday at Lynden High School. The girls game starts at 6:15 p.m. and the boys at 7:45 p.m.

Other Whatcom County teams were represented. Making the first team were Ferndale forward Jazen Guillory, the only sophomore on either team, and Meridian senior guard Jackson Short. Named to the second team was Blaine junior guard Josh Russ.

Others earning first-team honors were Lakewood senior Alex Jensen, who was named the conference MVP, and seniors Jackson Reisner and Wyatt Walker of Burlington-Edison. Earning second-team recognition were seniors Grayson Eaton of Anacortes, D.J. Clark of Burlington-Edison, Morgan Stacey of Lakewood, and Isaiah Guerero of Sedro-Woolley.

Lakewood’s Anthony Wiederkehr was named the varsity coach of the year, and Andy Olson of Burlington-Edison was named the assistant coach of the year.
