2A Boys Regional: Sehome Falls Behind Early In Loss

Mark Morris of Longview came out hot and left Sehome behind by 10 after the first quarter and while the Mariners played the Monarchs even after that it was too late as Sehome lost, 84-72, in the Class 2A state regionals in Chehalis on Saturday, Feb. 25.

Fortunately, the fifth-seeded Mariners (18-5) still get to go to the Yakima SunDome, but they will have to play a loser-out game on Wednesday, March 1, at 12:15 p.m. against 13th-seeded North Kitsap. The Vikings defeated Sehome last year at state.

Check out Whatcom Hoops for stories and photos from all of Friday’s and Saturday’s regional action.

Sehome seniors Grant Kepley and Grey Garrison had 20 points each, but it wasn’t enough to offset fourth-seeded Mark Morris’s 84 points, which was by far the most points the Mariners have given up all season.

Senior Mat Storm added 11 points, senior Isaac Lawrence had 8, and senior Dane Dominguez contributed 6. Lawrence also had two of Sehome’s five 3-pointers.

The Monarchs (23-2) were led by guards Braydon Olson and Kobe Parlin, who had 34 and 27 points, respectively.

Our other Class 2A boys team, the Lynden Lions, notched a 70-52 victory over Renton on Friday, Feb. 24, and will advance to the SunDome to play the winner of the Sehome-North Kitsap game in the state quarterfinals on Thursday, March 2, at 12:15 p.m.
