1B Boys Regional: Lummi Nation Can’t Keep Up With DeSales

Lummi Nation traveled the farthest of our Whatcom teams but the trip to Richland proved to be unsuccessful as the sixth-seeded Blackhawks fell to third seed DeSales of Walla Walla, 74-56, in the Class 1B state regionals Saturday.

Despite the loss, the Blackhawks (19-8) advance to the state tournament in the Spokane Arena and will play Wednesday, March 1, in a loser-out game against Mossyrock at 3:45 p.m. The Blackhawks played the Vikings earlier this year and lost, 63-51.

“We ran into a good team tonight,” said Lummi Nation coach Jerome Toby.

Freshman Jerome Toby Jr. had a team-high 19 points and junior Raymond Perkins had 12 points, and the two of them had four 3-pointers each. But the Lummi Nation offense couldn’t keep up with the Irish (22-2), who had twice as many 3s and sank 14 of 16 free throws.

Senior Richard Wilson added 10 points for the Blackhawks and senior Desmond Bailey had 6 points.
