Whatcom Hoops Boys Top 30: #28 Malachi Koenen

In another amazing season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 boys. Each day we’ll feature an outstanding player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#28

Malachi Koenen, junior, Lynden

WHY HE’S #28: It’s not surprising that the 5-foot-9 all-state linebacker was one of the best backcourt defenders in the Northwest Conference but besides adding a toughness to the Lions lineup, the off guard was one of the better 3-point shooters in the county. He averaged 7.5 points and was second on the team with 52 3-pointers, while also adding almost 2 assists a game.

COACH BRIAN ROPER: “Malachi became a lockdown defender and one of the better defenders in the conference. He is a competitive kid who will only be better next year.”

NOTE: Thank you to the coaches and to Tyler Anderson of WhatcomPreps.com for season stats.
