Whatcom Boys, Girls Dominate NWC, NW1B All-League Teams

As usual, Whatcom boys and girls dominated the all-Northwest Conference all-star teams announced by the league’s head coaches.

It’s also no surprise that after going unbeaten and largely untested in league play, the Lummi Nation boys and girls dominated their Northwest 1B League all-star squads.

Here’s a look at both leagues’ all-star teams:

Lynden sophomore Finley Parcher

Northwest Conference

On the girls side, sophomore Finley Parcher of Class 2A state champion Lynden was named the conference player of the year, Rob Adams of Lynden was picked as the head coach of the year, and Mike Stensgar of Sehome was chosen as the assistant coach of the year.

Joining Parcher on the first team were Lynden junior Payton Mills, seniors Danya Dykstra and Allison Shumate and junior Ella Fritts from Lynden Christian, junior Grace DeHoog of Nooksack Valley, and sophomore Rebeca Soares from Mount Baker.

Lynden had two players on the second team — senior Kiki York and sophomore Lexi Hermanutz. Joining them from Whatcom County were junior Jillea Fox of Ferndale, senior Brooklyn Fuller of Meridian, freshman Taylor Turrell of Sehome, senior Kate Shintaffer of Nooksack Valley, and sophomore Lexi Robbins of Squalicum.

Also named to the first team were senior Chesah Holmes and Claire Bishop of Burlington-Edison, and Mikiah Dunham of Anacortes. On the second team were freshman Anaya Saldivar of Mount Vernon, sophomore Reagan Evans of Sedro-Woolley, and senior Regan Hunt of Anacortes.

On the boys side, senior Brant Heppner of Lynden was chosen player of the year, Ray Ootsey of Squalicum was the assistant coach of the year, and Anthony Wiederkehr of Lakewood was named head coach of the year.

Whatcom players making the first team were senior Gannon Dykstra from Lynden Christian, seniors Talon Jenkins and Jaeger Fyfe from Meridian, and senior Caden Heutink of Nooksack Valley.

Earning second-team honors were senior Marcus Nixon and sophomore Hunter Calloway of Squalicum, sophomore Dawson Hintz of Lynden Christian, senior Jonah Brillowsky of Ferndale, junior Spencer Adams of Lynden, and senior Kincade Van Houten and junior Joe Harward of  Bellingham.

Also named to the first team were junior Ethan DeJong from Sedro-Woolley, senior Evan Stacey and junior Caleb Greenland from Lakewood, Micah Dickison from Anacortes, and junior Logan Heigert of Burlington-Edison. Second-team players included senior Timothy Feskov of Burlington-Edison, senior Michael Johnson Jr. of Mount Vernon, and junior Xavier Ochoa of Oak Harbor.

Northwest 1B League

The Lummi Nation boys were honored last month with several of the league’s top awards while the Lady Blackhawks had four players selected for the all-league teams, which were chosen by the coaches.

Junior Jerome Toby was named the NW1B player of the year, sophomore Dyson Edwards was named to the first team, and sophomores Deandre James and Landon LaFontaine were named to the second team. Lummi Nation also earned the league’s sportsmanship award.
