It’s state tournament time! The Class 1B, 1A and 2A state tournaments tip off Wednesday, and Whatcom County will be represented by three boys teams and three girls teams.
The Lummi Nation boys will start things off Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. in the Spokane Arena, while the other five begin play Thursday in Yakima’s SunDome.
The Lynden boys play at 10:30 a.m., the Lynden Christian girls at 12:15 p.m., the Meridian girls at 2 p.m. and the Lynden girls and Lynden Christian boys will play on opposite courts at 5:30 p.m.

Here’s a quick summary of all the opening games involving our teams:
Class 1B state (Spokane Arena)
LUMMI NATION BOYS: The third-seeded Blackhawks (22-2) take on 11th-seeded Riverside Christian (16-5) in a loser-out game Wednesday at 3:45 p.m. The winner advances to Thursday’s 3:45 p.m. quarterfinal against #5 Muckleshoot Tribal (23-3).
Class 1A state (Yakima SunDome)
LYNDEN CHRISTIAN GIRLS: The third-seeded Lyncs (21-3) are in the quarterfinals Thursday at 12:15 p.m. They will take take on the winner of Wednesday’s loser-out game between #5 Elma (21-3) and #13 Overlake (18-4).
MERIDIAN GIRLS: The seventh-seeded Trojans (19-5) are in the quarterfinals Thursday at 2 p.m. They will play the winner of Wednesday’s loser-out game between #8 King’s (20-6) and #9 Medical Lake (18-6).
LYNDEN CHRISTIAN BOYS: The top-seeded Lyncs (24-0) are in the quarterfinals Thursday at 5:30 p.m. They will take on the winner of Wednesday’s loser-out game between #7 Deer Park (20-3) and #10 King’s (19-5).
Class 2A state (Yakima SunDome)
LYNDEN GIRLS: The top-seeded Lions (21-3) are in the quarterfinals Thursday at 5:30 p.m. They will take on the winner of Wednesday’s loser-out game between #2 East Valley (Spokane) (19-4) and #10 Anacortes (16-8).
LYNDEN BOYS: The top-seeded Lions (23-1) are in the quarterfinals Thursday at 10:30 a.m. They will take on the winner of Wednesday’s loser-out game between #2 Columbia River (21-3) and #10 Anacortes (16-8).
