The high school basketball state playoffs begin this weekend with the state regionals, and Whatcom Hoops has all the information you’ll need to follow all nine of our teams.
Three squads — the Nooksack Valley and Sehome girls and the Lynden boys — play on Friday with the girls at Mount Vernon High School and the Lions hitting the road to Auburn.
The other six are playing Saturday with the Lynden Christian boys and girls and the Lynden girls staying close to home in Mount Vernon, and the Sehome boys (Chehalis), Lummi Nation boys (Richland), and Blaine boys (Yakima) heading south and east.
Eight of the nine, by virtue of their high seeding, will be heading across the mountains next week for their respective state tournaments regardless of whether they win or lose this weekend. Only the Sehome girls are in a loser-out contest but can join the others with a win Friday night.
The state tournaments will be held next Wednesday through Saturday, March 1-4, in Yakima (Class 2A boys and girls, and 1A boys and girls) and Spokane (1B boys).
