The Sehome and Bellingham boys teams used their home courts to good advantage by winning their opening-round games in the Class 2A District 1/2 tournament Thursday night.
The Mariners defeated Northwest Conference rival Sedro-Woolley, 71-55, to improve to 14-7 on the year
The Red Raiders took care of Cedarcrest of the Western Conference, 74-57, in improve to 10-12.
Both move into the double-elimation portion of the tournament on Saturday, weather permitting. Sehome travels to Mountlake Terrace for a 3 p.m. game. Bellingham will take on a familiar foe, top-seeded and defending state champion Lynden at Jake Maberry Gym at 5 p.m.
Blaine couldn’t make it a Whatcom County sweep Thursday, falling at Burlington-Edison, 79-41. The Borderites finished the season 8-13.
