1B Girls State: Lummi Nation’s Great Season Ends

The Lummi Nation girls basketball team has come a long way. But unfortunately, the Lady Blackhawks will go no further this season.

Lummi Nation couldn’t keep up with third-seed Oakesdale and lost, 62-28, in the first round of the Class 1B state tournament on Wednesday, March 4, in the Spokane Arena.

The 11th-seeded Lady Blackhawks completed a remarkable five-year turnaround from going 1-19 to reaching their goal of getting to state for the first time since 2012. They finished the season with a 17-10 record.

Oakesdale (17-6), which handed No.1 Pomeroy its lonely loss this season, advances to the quarterfinals on Thursday against No.4 Neah Bay.

The third-seeded Lummi Nation boys will begin their quest for a state title when they take on Riverside Christian in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday at 12:15 p.m. Fourth-seed Riverside Christian advanced by beating Selkirk, 69-67, on Wednesday.
