Whatcom Hoops Girls Top 30: #28 Loretta Murphy-Kangas

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 girls. Each day we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#28

Loretta Murphy-Kangas, senior, Squalicum

WHY SHE’S #28: As a junior, the 5-foot-10 center took a backseat to last year’s talented senior class and this season, took a backseat to the Storm’s talented sophomore class, only averaging 6 points and 5 rebounds a game. But it was her positive attitude, unselfishness, and leadership that allowed her younger teammates to blossom and allowed the team to improve even over last year’s success.

COACH JENALYN BROWN: “She was a bright star who blessed our team for the past four years, a true leader who understood her role on the team and brought joy, consistency, and determination. She had a career high 17 points this season and held her team together through the ups and downs of life in the Northwest Conference.”
