Whatcom Hoops Girls Top 30: #25 Maddy Swanson

In an incredible season filled with outstanding players, Whatcom Hoops is ranking the top 30 girls. Each day we’ll feature an amazing player in our county and count down until we get to #1. So join us daily as we honor the best of the best.

#25

Maddy Swanson, sophomore, Meridian

WHY SHE’S #25: On a team that prided itself on defense, the 5-foot-8 guard was often tasked with the toughest defensive assignment even if it meant sacrificing her offensive output. She only averaged 3.6 points a game, but nabbed 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 steals a game. Still, it was her positive attitude and work ethic that made her a great teammate on a young squad that overachieved and just missed a state berth.

COACH BREE JOY: “Hands down, Maddy is one of the best defenders in the league. She’s always tasked with guarding the opponent’s best player and rising to the challenge. She can get to the rack any time she wants to. Such a positive and hard worker, all while doing it with a smile on her face. I don’t think I have ever seen her angry.”
