Saturday Update: County Teams Go 0-for-3 In Winner-To-State Games

The Ferndale and Bellingham girls and the Sehome boys had their final opportunity Saturday to join six other Whatcom County teams in qualifying forstate tournaments, but all three squads fell in loser-out playoff games and had their seasons end.

The Golden Eagles had a morning contest in the Class 3A District 1 tournament, but lost to Edmonds-Woodway, 58-47, at Edmonds Community College. The loss ended Ferndale’s season at 15-8.

In an early afternoon game, the Bellingham girls had their Cinderella season come up one game short of state when they fell to Burlington-Edison, 77-40, in the 2A District 1/2 tournament. The loss ended the Red Raiders’ season at 10-14.

Then in a late afternoon contest in the 2A District 1/2 boys tournament, Sehome was beaten, 80-73, by Liberty (Issaquah), the same team that had eliminated Bellingham on Friday. The Mariners ended their season at 15-9.
