Senior Classic To Feature Boys, Girls All-Stars This Friday

The 38th annual John Clark Whatcom County Senior Classic featuring senior boys and girls basketball players from Whatcom County will be held on Friday, March 13, in Lynden High School’s Jake Maberry Gymnasium.

The girls event begin at 6 p.m. with a 3-point contest followed by the girls game. Then around 7:15 p.m., the boys will have a slam dunk contest and their 3-point contest with their game following.

Not only will you get to see some of the best players in the state — as proven in Yakima last weekend — but you’ll be able to see these seniors have fun playing with teammates for the last time and on the same team with some of their season-long rivals.

Proceeds from the event will benefit Open Hands, a non-profit helping to fight hunger in elementary-age children in Whatcom County by providing weekend meals during the school year.

Be watching Whatcom Hoops as we begin our countdown of this season’s top 30 boys and girls players next week.

The teams will be divided by city and county. On the boys side, Bellingham, Ferndale, Lummi Nation, Sehome and Squalicum will be on the City Team, while players from Blaine, Lynden, Lynden Christian, Meridian, Mount Baker and Nooksack Valley will represent the County Team.

For the girls, the City Team will have players from Bellingham, Blaine, Ferndale, Lummi Nation, Sehome, and Squalicum. On the County Team will be players from Lynden, Lynden Christian, and Nooksack Valley.

Among the all-stars will be members of our state championship teams — Jerome Toby and Chayce Waite-Kellar of the Lummi Nation boys, and Boyce Robertson of the Lynden Christian boys.

Tickets will be sold at door and are $5 for adults and $3 for students and children. (ASB cards will not be accepted.)

The event is named after John Clark, who led Lynden to its first state championship as a senior in 1961 and would later coach at Mount Baker and Lynden and be inducted into the Washington State Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame.
