Don’t Miss Bellingham High Hall Of Fame Ceremony

Bellingham High fans! The school’s Athletic Hall of Fame ceremony is today, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center. KPUG sports personality Mark Scholten will be the MC and there’s no charge. The 2020 inductees are: 

* Legendary baseball coach and local umpire BRYAN “BUSHER” LEWIS, who coached major-leaguers Clary Marshall and Cliff Chambers, who pitched a no-hitter for the Pirates.

* Contributor DICK STARK, who has done local sports radio for more than 50 years, been a youth sports coach and been part of the Whatcom County sports community his whole life.

* Three-sport star HAL ARNASON (Class of 1945), who started at the University of Washington in football (QB), basketball (point guard) and baseball (pitcher), and was a long-time pitcher for the semi-pro Bellingham Bells.

* Basketball star DON SUNITCH (Class of 1953), who led the Raiders to a Cross State League title and fourth place at state his senior year, and went on to play for the University of Washington in 1955 and ’56, when he was the team captain.

* State champion wrestler and football star GREG GOWENS (Class of 1971)

* Track state champion and basketball star GARTH POOLEON (Class of 1986)

* Golf state champion and volleyball star PAULA WEIHE (Class of 1990)

* Soccer and track star KAHYLEE GARDNER (Class of 2003)

* Soccer, basketball and track star DARCIE GARDNER (Class of 2005)
